Volunteering at PawPADs

Our volunteers come from many different walks of life and professions and are very much a vital part of our family!

Volunteer applicants are considered without regard to race, sex, religion, creed, sexual orientation, veteran status, or ethnic origin.

Primary requirements:

  • 18 Years of age,
  • have or have access to reliable transportation,
  • Ability to lift dogs up to 50 pounds and the ability to move quickly and get up and down easily when working and playing with the dogs.
  • be flexible, adaptable, and versatile,
  • and, of course, have a love of animals and people!
  • Reasonable accommodation can be made to allow a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of volunteering.

PawPADs' volunteers fall into two general categories:

Direct Care volunteers generally have prior experience with dog care and/or training skills (but is not necessarily required, as we'll provide some training!) and complete a PawPADs-sponsored "PawPADs 101" class prior to working with our dogs. These volunteers commit to a regular schedule for at least once a week for 6 months.

Support service volunteers are around the dogs, but do not necessarily work directly with them. These volunteers can volunteer on a one-time basis or on an ongoing basis with no minimum commitment required. Experience or training in social services, or familiarity with PCs (QuickBooks, Email, Social media), and phone skills are valued skills. There are also unique opportunities for volunteers having specific skill sets (e.g. carpentry, marketing, information technology, fund-raising, event planning).
